The 2024 MAMA Awards were everything a K-pop fan could dream of and more! This year’s show wasn’t just a celebration, it was history in the making. Over three exciting days, MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) brought the best of K-pop to not one but two incredible locations. The event kicked off on November 21 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, marking the very first time MAMA was held in the U.S. Crazy, right? Then, the party moved to Osaka’s Kyoawea Dome on November 22–23, where fans were treated to even more unforgettable moments.
Big Wins That Stole the Show
Let’s start with the biggest prizes of the night, SEVENTEEN absolutely owned the 2024 MAMA Awards, taking home two of the most prestigious awards: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for their phenomenal record “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN.” If you’ve been looping that album as much as I have, you know how well-deserved this is!
Then there’s the 2024 MAMA Awards Song of the Year, which went to aespa’s “Supernova.” The track has been a fan favorite since it dropped, and it’s no wonder the girls snagged this award. Meanwhile, BTS’s Jimin lit up the night by winning Worldwide Fans’ Choice, a testament to the power of ARMY’s love and support.
Newcomers Stepping Into the Spotlight
While the veterans brought their A-game, the rookies proved they’re here to stay. TWS and ILLIT walked away with Best New Male Artist and Best New Female Artist, and let me tell you, they’ve got the potential to become the next big thing in K-pop.
Soloists and Groups That Dominated
In the solo category, BTS’s Jungkook showed us why he’s the golden maknae. He won Best Male Artist and Best Dance Performance Male Solo for “Standing Next to You.” IU, on the other hand, reminded everyone why she’s the nation’s sweetheart, earning Best Female Artist.
When it came to groups, SEVENTEEN and aespa continued their winning streak by claiming Best Male Group and Best Female Group. These two groups are unstoppable forces in the industry, and their wins only solidify their status as K-pop royalty.
Aespa’s Record-Breaking Night
Aespa came into the 2024 MAMA Awards with eight nominations and didn’t leave empty-handed. They cleaned up with major wins like Visa Artist of the Year, Visa Song of the Year, and Visa Album of the Year. They also won Best Dance Performance Female Group and Best Music Video. Talk about domination!
Other Highlights You Can’t Miss
BLACKPINK’s Jennie was another big name of the night. Her solo career, which launched earlier this year, earned her seven nominations, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. TXT snagged Ponta Pass Global Favorite Artist, while BIBI’s hauntingly beautiful “Bam Yang Gang” won Best Vocal Performance Solo. Zico and Jennie’s collab “SPOT!” also took home Best Collaboration.
The most special moment of this ceremony for me is Byeon Woo Seok, known for his role in “Lovely Runner,” surprised the audience with an emotive rendition of “Sudden Shower” from the drama’s soundtrack.
The 2024 MAMA Awards were a perfect mix of honoring legends like SEVENTEEN and aespa while shining a light on fresh talent. From jaw-dropping performances to emotional acceptance speeches, the show had it all. So, who was your favorite winner?
