The Fiery Priest is back with a bang in Season 2, and if the first episode is any sign, we’re in for a ride! It’s packed with the same chaotic action, humor, and wild characters that made Season 1 so memorable. Watching it felt like reuniting with old friends who are somehow even more unpredictable than before.
Episode Recap
So here’s how it starts: we get a glimpse into Busan’s intense drug trade. Things quickly take a dramatic turn during Father Gabriel Lee’s memorial mass, when an altar boy suddenly collapses from a drug overdose. Just like that, the show pulls us right back into action, setting up a whole new round of problems for Kim Hae-Il to deal with. And you know he’s not going to handle them quietly.
This opening scene is the perfect setup for Kim Hae-Il’s return. He’s as intense as ever, and his reappearance feels like a storm blowing in. Things are about to get messy, and in The Fiery Priest style, it’s both serious and hilarious.
Some of my favorite scenes in this episode really capture what makes the show so much fun. First, there’s an epic fight at a temple, where monks keep politely asking the attackers not to damage their wooden drum. It’s a classic Fiery Priest moment, mixing action with comedy in a way that’s both ridiculous and oddly charming.
Then, there’s a SWAT raid scene where Lee Hanee’s character (always a treat to watch!) grabs a food dome and uses it as a weapon. I mean, who does that? Only in this show! It’s over-the-top but works perfectly, especially for those of us who love that mix of comedy and creative action.
Finally, the team that comes together to take on the Gudam drug ring is a mix of bizarre and awesome. There’s a grim reaper, a South Asian gang member, and a rough-and-tumble loner who look like they walked out of three different dramas. They shouldn’t work as a team, but in this world, they absolutely do.
Episode Review
Strengths:
- Pacing: The episode wastes no time. Right from the start, we’re in the thick of the action. No fluff, just straight into the heart of the conflict.
- Humor: This show knows how to balance serious moments with laugh-out-loud comedy. There’s something hilarious or absurd in almost every scene.
- Character dynamics: The characters are the heart of the show. Seeing old favorites back together, with new dynamics added to the mix, keeps things fresh and nostalgic at the same time.
Potential Weaknesses:
- Volume levels: The audio can get a bit overwhelming, and I could see it being a problem sometimes.
- Backstory gaps: They don’t spend much time explaining what happened in the five years since Season 1. For new viewers, this could be confusing, but longtime fans will probably just roll with it.
Final Thoughts
The Season 2 premiere of The Fiery Priest is everything we could’ve hoped for and more. It’s loud, it’s funny, and it’s jam-packed with action. Kim Nam-gil as Kim Hae-Il is as unpredictable and intense as ever, delivering an energy that keeps you glued to the screen.
This episode might be a bit too much for some viewers, if you don’t like fast pacing and high energy, it could be overwhelming. But for fans of Season 1, it’s like coming home to a world of over-the-top action and memorable laughs. This season promises to be a blast, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next!
