How South Korea Is Coming Together After the Heartbreaking Jeju Air Crash

Hey friends, South Korea is in a time of mourning after the tragic Jeju Air crash at Muan Airport on December 29. The government has declared a 7-day mourning period, from now until January 5, 2025.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok announced the news after visiting the site. It’s such a heartbreaking disaster, with at least 179 lives lost out of the 181 people on board.

Here’s what’s happening during this mourning period:

  • Flags will fly at half-mast on public buildings.
  • Public events might be canceled or postponed.
  • Everyone’s being asked to show restraint, no big celebrations or parties.

The President shared his condolences, saying no words can heal the families pain. He also promised full support for the grieving families and declared Muan a special disaster zone to help with recovery.

This is a tough time for everyone, but it’s also a chance for the country to come together, share in the grief, and remember those we lost.
